THE KC CONNECTION

this end of this month is filled with a plethora of great parties and happenings. its back to school and lincoln is buzzing with mixed emotions. the school season is a time to take advantage of thousand of young minds that spend their parents money and give the nightlife scene a boost. but it also makes the maturity level of downtown as childish as the four bars they flock to. they shall remain nameless but you get the picture, brah!!!!! i do love my quiet summers but my passion is turning people onto new music. especially when it makes people dance!

lets start with the parties

Feeling Graphic?

Needing a little summer wardrobe kick? Artful Dodger packs just the right graphic punch.

Designed by Scott Langton, and recently purchased by Iconix, AD is a witty line of upscale graphic tees, hoodies, jeans and more.

Each season has a new story to tell, and every garment is another page in the tale of the AD and his Cutter Crew. Layered with clever embroidery and screen printing every AD piece is covetable. I just can't resist the mini meat cleaver necklace - Priceless!

Having trouble fitting into your favorite jeans? Feeling a little self-conscious in that new swimsuit?

If you answered yes, you probably just need to find your Boogie Body!

Roller Coasters and Ruffles

Bria in "The Lauren"

Last weekend an amazing fashion show "Roller Coasters and Ruffles" was presented at the Marz Bar.  The fashion show was the debut of two collections Andrew Boettger produced for his Masters Degree in fashion design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Andrew spent time analyzing the trickle down effect of the fashion industry and the recent trend of limited-edition budget designer collections.

As a result of his research Andrew created two clothing collections Colossus and Cyclone.  One to be retailed at a designer price-point and the other at a more moderate level.  Also included in the show was a retrospective of his earlier work experimenting with original fabric prints, sculptural design and deconstruction.

Hair by Nathan Sebastian and Staiy Tran, makeup by Sara Pancharoen, and styling by Andrew Boettger and Tracy Rosenbaum
Nathan James-Estenson took some fantastic photographs of the show and some close-ups afterwards.

GET ME THE SUN!!!

With the sun out, out come the flowers, the shapely get ups, and the DISCO SPIRIT!

Here’s a great little tune for ‘struttin’ on the sunny side of the street or ‘wigglin’ it with the windows open

“Walking into Sunshine” was Central Line’s early 80’s hit and was produced by legendary Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan. ENJOY!

A LITTLE BIT OF FEEL GOOD

today i woke up on the wrong side of the bed. no kisses on the back of my neck, no water to cure my hangover, no nothin. i needed some motivation for my day. thus the jamie lidell post. love him. i believe that i have givin him more love in the last three years than any musician in my life. i gave cds to all my friends who then proceeded to buy their own copies. i had the best time driving the three hours to lawerence to see him with my best friend jill. still one of my favorite concerts of all time.
after his electro-funk masterpiece multiply i was hopeful that this direction of motown gold would not shift to the more avant material jamie worked on with christian vogal. instead he went the complete other direction, sharper production and poppier(sp?) hooks. is this really on warp?

i'm obsessed i think you will be too

This Summer, Nas plans to shake the very foundation of the industry with his controversially titled album "Nigger."

My opinion?

At least ol boy is picking some good beats, finally.

"Be A N*gg(a/er) Too" from the 4thcoming "Nigger" LP. (click on Nas nicely, and maybe he'll let you hear it.)

L.A. MC Blu's been stirring up a storm of buzz since the Summer of 2007 when his widely acclaimed debut album "Below the Heavens" was released, along with a sleu of guest appearances on such projects like "Dirty Science" before that, and countless new material he's released through his MySpace.

Detroit-bred, L.A. residing MC as well as producer, Ta'Raach (formerly known as Lacks, and here's his MySpace) has been well planted in the Hip-Hop scene since his appearance on Jay Dee's "It's Like That" from 2001's "Welcome 2 Detroit" LP, as well as collaboration with the Innerzone Orchestra. In 2006, when Ta'Raach dropped his first full on vocals+beats album "The Fevers", it's only been uphill.

Blu and Ta'Raach are also a group.
And that group is C.R.A.C. (Collect Respect Anna Check) Knuckles. (Pronounced "crass", so to say: Crass N...oh, just check the Nas article.)

Check out 3 tracks from the 19 the group has to offer on their first full length LP as a group, "The Piece Talks".
(Out today, 4/22).

In late 2002, Jay Dee - (if that name only brings up bad memories of Kriss Kross rekkids, please: ) - completed his long-labored solo album for the then soon-to-be-collapsed MCA Records. However, instead of using this as the prime place to showcase his well documented skills on the beats, he instead chose to focus on the rhymes, and, surprisingly, let some of his favorite board-running contemporaries handle the knock. Alas, not only did Dilla sit impatiently for months while no moves were made towards dropping the LP, when MCA crashed and burned in early 2003, the album was shelved with no INTENTION of release. Dilla stated in a 2003 interview:

"Right now, I'm on MCA but it feels like I'm an unsigned artist still. It's cool, it's a blessing, but damn I'm like, 'When's my shit gonna come out? I'm ready now, what's up?' They're just like they gotta wait on this person and this person and they're firing this person. It's getting crazy. I woulda did a lot better just not even fucking with them, keep doing what I was doing before."

Well, 5 years and a few months later:
Dilla has parted ways with us a little over 2 years ago.
But also, 5 years and a few months later:
The long awaited "Jay Stay Paid" LP is at the gates.

The Kanye West produced banger either titled "F'd Up" or "Pay Jay" was played by UK DJ Benji B on BBC's Radio 1 a few nights ago. It also features Dilla's detroit proteges Frank-N-Dank. Click on the Dilla photo 2 check it.

MONDAY UPDATE

well breakbeatbuddah went well. He killed it with heavy dubstep as 275+ showed up for two floors of jams with 8 different djs. I am still getting to know some of the new cats from omaha and denver but i will say qbit and sauce came to play. the djs in the newly renovated box basement played tons of original tracks and made the heat and lame pop house tracks upstairs seem to fade into the back of my mind. I also want to point out that without the help of many of the local crew that the show wouldn't have gone on. big up to chris m., norm4eva, lacey, erika, and everyone i am forgetting. THE CORE KNOWS HOW TO GET DOWN
CHECK OUT BASSFACE AND HLN for more upcoming shows

oh and don't let breakbeatbuddah do your afterhours....in lincoln he got to waisted and we had to carry him to his hotel and in Lawrence he just didn't show...dipshit

First thing you need to know

For those of you who stay up into the wee hours of the morning frequently it may be hard to tell which day it is. Here is a handy way to remember the days of the "late night early morning" week:

Mostly Monday
Totally Tuesday
Wait It's Wednesday
This Is Thursday
Finally Friday
So This Is Saturday
Suddenly Sunday
